The Cannes Film Festival 2024 promises to be a memorable event, with a constellation of international stars set to walk the red carpet. Here is an overview of the most anticipated celebrities.
American stars
A myriad of American stars have been announced for the red carpet. Among them are Kevin Costner, Nicolas Cage, Richard Gere, Uma Thurman, Demi Moore and Selena Gomez. George Miller, director of the Mad Max saga, will also be present, but out of competition. He will receive an honorary Palme d’Or at the closing ceremony of the festival on May 25. Francis Ford Coppola will be in competition.
Films out of competition
The fifth installment of the Mad Max saga, Furiosa, directed by George Miller, will be screened out of competition. Frenchman Daniel Auteuil will present his film Le Fil out of competition. Ukrainian Sergei Loznitsa will also be present with L’invasion.
The jury
The jury tasked with choosing among the films in competition will be presided over by Greta Gerwig, the American director of the film Barbie, the 14th biggest box-office success worldwide. According to the Festival, this is the first time an American female director has taken on this role.
The opening and closing ceremonies
French actress Camille Cottin will host the opening and closing ceremonies on May 14 and 25 next.
Opening
At the opening, the public will discover in world premiere the new comedy by Frenchman Quentin Dupieux, Le deuxième acte, presented out of competition.
