It is with great sadness that we learned this morning of the death of the very talented sculptor and painter Philippe Berry, brother of Richard Berry and father of Marilou and Rudy.
Philippe, left us at the age of 63, much too early... he had started his professional life as a graphic designer, then model maker and director of advertising agencies.
Married to Josiane Balasko, he also designed the poster for Nuit d'Ivresse. He worked regularly with the cinema but also with the theater by creating sets.
It is in 1984, in addition to his activities, that he begins to launch out in the painting, he continues then with the sculpture 4 years later.
In an interview given in 2012, Philippe explains that through his works he initially sought to know who he was "to find myself" he said, and he also describes himself as someone atypical.
His inspiration: childhood, not by nostalgia but by play and desire... the desire for a game, a toy... the pleasure and joy that it brings. We feel through his works that the theme of childhood is intrinsically linked to the background of his concept.
On the French Riviera at the moment :
-The Gabel Gallery in Biot exhibits the works of the artist.
- In Mougins, the Monumental 2019 exhibition, until September 15, 2019, where you can admire at the entrance of the Place des Patriotes the elephants of Philippe Berry who do the balancing act.
Philippe Berry was a touching man by his sensitivity and his positive philosophy, and he will remain present through the works he leaves us.
