It is with immense sadness that we learned this morning of the death of the very talented sculptor and painter Philippe Berry, brother of Richard Berry and father of Marilou and Rudy.

Philippe left us at the age of 63, far too soon… he began his professional life as a graphic designer, then as a layout artist and director of advertising agencies.
Married to Josiane Balasko, he had, incidentally, designed the poster for Nuit d’Ivresse. He worked regularly in film but also in theater, creating sets.
It was in 1984, alongside his other activities, that he began to take up painting; he then moved on to sculpture four years later.
In an interview given in 2012, Philippe explained that through his works he initially sought to discover who he was, “to find myself,” as he put it, and he also described himself as someone unconventional.

His inspiration: childhood, not out of nostalgia but through play and desire… the wish for a game, for a toy… the pleasure and joy that this brings. Through his works, one senses that the theme of childhood is intrinsically tied to the core of his concept.
On the Côte d’Azur right now:
– The Galerie Gabel in Biot exhibits the artist’s works.

– In Mougins, the exhibition Monumental 2019, through September 15, 2019, where you can admire Philippe Berry’s elephants performing as tightrope walkers at the entrance to Place des Patriotes.

Philippe Berry was a man touched by his sensitivity and his positive philosophy, and he will remain present through the works he leaves us.
We extend our deepest condolences to his family.
Goodbye Philippe, and thank you..
