The Cannes International Show Jumping Tournament kicks off this Thursday with an evening dedicated to the Global Champions League, which is usually scheduled for Friday.

This team event, which just crowned the Saint Tropez Pirates—featuring Spain’s Mariano Martinez Bastida, Ireland’s Max Wachman, and Portugal’s Duarte Seabra—as champions, took place amid great excitement, with a course designed by Italian course director Uliano Vezzani.

However, the first heat was led by Madrid in Motion—composed of Maikel Van Vleuten from the Netherlands and Beauville Z.N.O.P.—and the Spanish team of Alvarez Aznar and Legend, with a time of 118.05 seconds. The Saint Tropez Pirates posted a time of 131.60 seconds in this first heat. Rounding out the provisional podium, the Cannes Stars, an all-female team, finished the first heat with a time of 133.32 seconds.
The second round, featuring a new course layout, kept the Cannes crowd on the edge of their seats, as teams struggled to figure out how to navigate this challenging course. It wasn’t until the very end that the Saint Tropez Pirates secured their victory.
“This victory is fantastic, and the crowd in Cannes was incredible,” said the Saint Tropez Pirates about their win.
