The Principality of Monaco has decided to follow the lead of our Italian neighbors and lift lockdown restrictions this Monday, May 4. With no new reported cases of COVID-19, a low infection rate, and the need to restart the economy, the Monegasque government has decided to end the lockdown.
Of course, strict rules have been announced, and this easing of lockdown restrictions will take place in stages, just as it has in France.

For Phase 1:
1) The rules:
- Masks are required on public transportation, in taxis, and in all passenger vehicles, as well as in stores and shopping centers. They are also required in places of worship.
- Gatherings of up to 5 people in public spaces.
- Social distancing of at least 1.50 meters.
- Hand sanitizer is available in the stores.

2) What will be open and permitted:
- Stores and shopping centers.
- Hair salons and beauty salons are by appointment only.
- Recreational boating is permitted from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Water sports are permitted.
- Places of worship are open, and religious weddings are permitted.
- The heliport will partially resume operations for on-demand flights.
- Public services will reopen.
- Public and private construction projects may resume, subject to very strict health and safety measures that will be monitored regularly.

3) What remains closed and off-limits:
- Beaches are off-limits.
- Gardens and playgrounds are prohibited.
- Sports and all outdoor sports facilities are prohibited.
- Gyms are still closed.
- Restaurants, cafes, and nightclubs remain closed.
- Movie theaters, theaters, and arcades also remain closed.
- Cruise ships are prohibited in the Principality.

All of these restrictions will be evaluated after two weeks, followed by a week of deliberation to establish new rules: the “Stop and Go” strategy to control a potential resurgence of the epidemic. The goal is to lift the remaining restrictions if there are no new cases, or to reimpose a lockdown if the outbreak resumes; hence the importance of strictly adhering to the rules to limit the risk of transmission and a resurgence of this outbreak.
